Obama Advocating Government According to Reilgious Dogma

At the National Prayer Breakfast, Obama, in a bizarre revelation, disclosed that he's attempting to govern the universe country according to religious dogma.
But I also do it because I know that far too many neighbors in our country have been hurt and treated unfairly over the last few years, and I believe in God’s command to 'love thy neighbor as thyself.'"
......
"And I think to myself, if I’m willing to give something up as somebody who’s been extraordinarily blessed, and give up some of the tax breaks that I enjoy, I actually think that’s going to make economic sense. But for me as a Christian, it also coincides with Jesus’s teaching that 'for unto whom much is given, much shall be required,'" Obama said, noting Jewish and Islamic teachings say much the same thing.
......
To answer the responsibility we’re given in Proverbs to 'Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute.'"

CNN came up with a funny headline: Obama: Jesus would back my tax-the-rich policy

At least one theologian doesn't agree with Obama's take.
Not too much. The Bible is silent on whether capital gains should be taxed at 15% or a higher rate. Ditto for other types of investment income. Payroll tax holidays are not mentioned.

"If you did a search on taxes in the Bible, you are not going to find a lot that's helpful for this discussion," said O. Wesley Allen, a Bible scholar at Lexington Theological Seminary.

Complicating matters, Allen said that one of the most commonly cited Bible passages about taxes is frequently misinterpreted.

In the Gospel of Matthew, Jesus is asked whether it is lawful for Jews to pay taxes to Caesar, a Roman dictator.

Jesus tells his questioners to give back to Caesar what is Caesar's, and to God what is God's.

"That passage is often quoted as saying Jesus said to pay taxes. That's not what it is," Allen said. "It's important to remember that the people asking this question are trying to trick him. He gets out of the trap more than he answers the question."

Perhaps a better parallel is gleaning -- an Old Testament practice in which farmers are encouraged to leave the crops on the edges of their fields for orphans and widows.

"As a commandment, that functions as a tax on the rich for the sake of the poor," Allen said.

Allen said there are many passages throughout the Bible that mandate the poor and widowed should be cared for. "But it doesn't dictate the policies that should be pursued to accomplish that," he said.

I'm beginning to simply think the guy's a nut. An oratorically gifted nut, but a nut. I never liked him, but I didn't doubt his sanity. Now I do. Maybe there's a good reason he's never revealed his college grades. The comparison of Obama to Chauncey Gardiner rings more true than ever.

I don't like the idea of a president walking around, falling to his knees and advocating putting whatever religious revelations he has into law. This concerns me deeply. We have separation of church and state for a reason. The Bible, and I'm sure probably all religious tomes, open themselves to broad interpretations. I want a country run according to good logic and reasoning with room for everyone to practice their religious beliefs but not be forced to practice any religious beliefs by law.

Additionally, Obama is usurping religion for political ends, a grave sin. He ridicules and belittles religion. Could this guy be any more full of it? Wait and see.

Hey, Obama, what did God tell you to do today?

UPDATE: Performing a Sarvangasana yoga stance, I experienced a flash from the Gospel according to Matthew. After getting over my confusion and dissonance of receiving a Gospel flash while doing yoga, this is the quote from the parable of the workers in the vineyard that came to me:
But he answered one of them, ‘I am not being unfair to you, friend. Didn’t you agree to work for a denarius? 14 Take your pay and go. I want to give the one who was hired last the same as I gave you. 15 Don’t I have the right to do what I want with my own money? Or are you envious because I am generous?’ 16 “So the last will be first, and the first will be last.”

Looks like Obama's been doing some selective listening.
