The Shame and Hypocrisy of Lindsey Graham, Harry Reid and Others Like Them
Recently riots in Afghanistan resulted in several deaths including UN workers. Senators Harry Reid and Lindsey Graham blamed the violence on a preacher in Florida who burned a Koran. Graham:

And think of this: Remember the Piss Christ?
A piece of art which consisted of a crucifix of Christ submerged in a jar of piss which the artist claimed to have produced. While many Christians protested it and no one died, others defended it as freedom of expression (speech) and artistic freedom. When people protested that the artist was given a prize of money provided "in part by the National Endowment for the Arts, a United States Government agency that offers support and funding for artistic projects," others defended that under separation of church and state.
But, now,

I wish we could find some way to hold people accountable. Free speech is a great idea, but we’re in a war. During World War II you had limits on what you could do if it inspired the enemy. Right. American Christians behave like civilized humans and don't riot or kill. They don't even bomb other Christian churches and kill little girls.
You'll have to pardon me for not buying the "American Christians are civilized" narrative. The only reason they mostly behave nowadays is because so many of them had to be ruthlessly brought into compliance with civilized law over the course of decades. I was born in Birmingham, and raised in the deep south. I know better.
The only reason more of them aren't running the streets killing, lynching, bombing, and burning their way across the country is because they know they face the threat of being prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, and that complicit local officials and populations can't always protect them.

Don't worry, I'll pardon you. I'm a Christian. My sister went to college at UAB and still lives in Alabama. She's also a lesbian. She's never reported any attempted lynchings of her. Instead she is a full professor at a state university, the NCAA rep for that university and lives in peace in that great state.
And, you're probably 20-30 years younger than I am. Don't pretend you remember more of the 1950s and 1060s than I do. I was there, in the South but not quite as deep.
I took a class in college called Religion and Racism in America. I learned even more about the South and Birmingham. Two professors taught that class. One of them had been in Birmingham protesting with one of the protestors no more than 5 minutes before the other was killed. Interestingly, that professor is Glenn Reynolds father.
Be careful tomorrow. It's the Christian day of worship. Violence and barbarianism may ensue.

I don't claim to know more about the 50's and 60's than you do, I just know that in the fanning of sectarian flames in America, plenty of people like to ignore that history, and forget there ever was a Klan.

For example, Louisiana is an overwhelmingly Christian state, and yet, a recent study found it the most violent.
Now, I don't have a lot of on-hand facts to back this up, but I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that plenty of those who engage in violence down here in the Pelican State go to Church on Sunday.

Moral equivalence.. killing your daughter for being too western is culturally acceptable with the Christians you know? Killing rape victims for dishonoring the family?
They do that in America, and get sentences like 35 years but it doesn't stop them. I'm surprised there aren't riots in the streets demanding they be released (yet).

Hey, look! A guy just pleaded guilty to a hate crime today in New Orleans. He copped to harassing a group of folks in the French Quarter (he thought they were gay), and then pulled a knife and stabbed a guy who was trying to make him stop.
No word on his religious affiliation at this time. I'm sure if he was a Muslim, it'd be front page news. But I'd lay even odds he considers himself a member of a different "religion of peace," one perhaps more popular in the state of Louisiana.
