Liberals Love Violence
Courtland Milloy starts out his column in The Washington Post:
One sentence amuses me somewhat and illustrates Milloy's lack of historical perspective.
Now racist liberals have tied a mattress to the bottom of Florida Congressional candidate Eddie Adams Jr.'s pick up truck, causing a fire from which Adams suffered burns to his arms and hands serious enough to require skin grafts. Additionally, there has been an outbreak of vandalism against Republicans in particular in Hillsborough County, Florida.
My Congresswoman, Jean Schmidt, received a threatening voice mail in response to her vote against the health care bill.
Those of us not suffer from memory loss or selective attention disorder remember when a black man, Kenneth Gladrey, was beaten by SEIU union thugs and called nigger by them. And, the Black Panther voter intimidation case Obama's administration conveniently decided to not prosecute. The list goes on forever.
From the earliest days of the 20th century (at least), liberals/socialist have a history of violence. Lenin, Stalin, Mao, Hitler make up the worst of them. More recent examples include Obama's friend, Bill Ayers. Conservatives and libertarians, where I include myself, need to stand strong and not shrink from the challenge facing us. Have the courage to do the right thing. Remember the examples of Ghandi, Martin Luther King and Lech Wałęsa. Don't let the liberal violence, lies and threats keep you from the path of liberty and equality.
But remember, liberals love violence when it's directed at those who don't think like them and be careful out there.

I know how the "tea party" people feel, the anger, venom and bile that many of them showed during the recent House vote on health-care reform. I know because I want to spit on them, take one of their "Obama Plan White Slavery" signs and knock every racist and homophobic tooth out of their Cro-Magnon heads.Milloy then goes on to elaborate why he wants to violently remove the teeth of protesters.

Cleaver grew up in a house in Texas that had been used as a slave cabin only one generation before,...Emanual Cleaver II is 66 years old which means he as born in 1943 or 1944, twenty years after my parents were born. My grandparents were born in roughly 1890 to 1910, or thirty to forty years before my parents. Assuming the same interval, my great grandparents were born in 1860 to 1870. To put it simply, the house in Texas wasn't used as a slave cabin one generation before Cleaver was born, more likely 2-3 generations.

At this point in the campaign, office workers with the Hillsborough County Sheriff have tallied 90 reports of vandalism against cars with Republican campaign bumper stickers, and 7 such incidents against cars with Democrat bumper stickers. Other incidents include the systematic and widespread vandalism or theft of Republican campaign signs.

Capitol Hill police are investigating the threat made Wednesday night in a call to her district office in Sycamore Township. The caller mentioned he had a 9-mm gun.Republican Congressman Eric Cantor's Richmond campaign office was shot at last night.
The caller said Schmidt was a racist for opposing the bill backed President Barack Obama, whose father was African, Bennett said.
"I'm glad the president passed health care," the caller says on a copy of the recording provided to The Enquirer by Bennett. "(Racist) Republicans hate that, don't you?"
The caller also labeled as racists Rep. John Boehner of West Chester and Sen. Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, both Republicans.
"Why don't you all just change the party name to racist?" the caller said. "F--- all you racist(s)."
The man added that he wished Schmidt's back had been broken in 2008 when she was hit by a car while jogging in Miami Township.
Virginia Rep. Eric Cantor said Thursday that his Richmond campaign office has been shot at and that he's received "threatening e-mails" -- but at the same time the House minority whip accused top Democrats of trying to exploit the threats they've been receiving for "political gain."
Cantor said "a bullet was shot through the window" of his campaign office. The incident happened Monday, Fox News has learned, the latest in a rash of apparent threats and acts of intimidation against members of Congress.

I guess it has been too long since the last time our society was so polarized we started shooting at each other. Or has it ever really stopped?
None of this behavior is OK, and language of that type has no place in our politics from any side. This is exactly the end result of hyperbolic politics on all sides, and it needs to stop.
A violent response to someone else's angry words or violent behavior is called a reprisal. It is a shame to see we aren't beyond that.

To you I will apologize for this post, I had a specific group of liberals to piss off when I wrote it.
You are correct. None of this behavior is OK. To be honest, I could see myself being willing to fight and die for my beliefs, i.e. freedoms in the Bill of Rights, not my country mind you, but my beliefs.
I'm not sure how we got to this point. I was going to blame Clinton/Gore beginning with their first campaign against G.H. Bush. But, I think it's more of a generational thing, unfortunately my generation - the baby boomers.
We stomped, cried, rioted and otherwise behaved like spoiled brats in the 1960s and 1970s. We never really grew up and now are the people who are willing to destroy everything if you don't give us what we want. If we can't have what we want, nobody can have what they want. Another reason I think the greatest generation ain't that great, they raised us.

I don't know it's so hard for people to admit that there's bad behavior on both sides.
I was listening to NPR in the car, talking about threats against Democrats after the healthcare vote. Of course they could not, just could not bring themselves to talk about threats and action against Republicans. No mention at all. People getting all their news from NPR wouldn't have any way of knowing about those incidents.

I don't either. The bias in the media disturbs me greatly. I expect politicians and private individuals to be bias. But, news sources should report on all the news, not just what suits their ideological bent. That's what the editorial page, or the editorial comment at the end of the news on TV, is for.
If the actions of all reported equally, the politicians, etc would most likely clean up their acts. Thomas Jefferson (our truly most intelligent president) once said, "Advertisements contain the only truth to be relied on in a newspaper." If you consider it, you will realize his words are true. Indeed, today one can be sued for false advertising. Poor, inaccurate, or bias reporting carries no penalty unless liable is involved.

DSL - Thanks for stopping by. For me the small amount of extra effort is takes to copy a post from here to there is no longer worth it. Rarely have I encountered such rigid belief patterns and closed minds as the liberals there. Many that those liberals would consider fundamentalists are more open minded and accepting than they.
Part of my reaction towards them is having to put up with the boorish behavior of the libs in my family over the years. I still haven't quite gotten over the time many years ago that my mother looked at me and told me that it was OK to discriminate against me because someone else had discriminated against someone else somewhere else.
About 7 years ago my family decided to move our family Thanksgiving dinner from my parents to my sister's and her husband's house. After making homemade rolls, mashed potatoes, cooking turkey and ham, then driving 250 miles to be there, and my son making pigs in a blanket after we got there my sister decided to make a big claim of sexism because most of the males sat down for a moment of rest before dinner was actually served. (My brother had prepared food also (not his wife, him) although he had worked that day.)
Another time I drove 300 miles to attend my father's 80th birthday, much of it through winding roads over the Cumberland Plateau. Then he tried start a big argument about "What are we going to do about George Bush?"
These are not uneducated people with no manners. My father had a Phd in psychology and was a university professor, my sister and her husband own a software business. I no longer speak to her. I indulged my father because he was old and I wanted to make his final years in this world as good as possible.
On the whole I've found hardcore liberals to be as self-righteous, condescending, arrogant, boorish and closed minded as any group of people I've ever encountered. In my day to day life, there is no point in bothering with them. I see no reason to bother with them with my blogging either. "All politics is personal."

I try to defend people of all political faiths or none when I see their opponents leveling selective, distorted or overly-broad brush attacks on them based on the actions of a few with whom an association with them might be found only in the fact of their shared dislike of the party in or out of power. That, though, is a separate issue from my own policy preferences, which have since our family moved from the Indian Hill school district in 1978 been solidly Austrian-economics libertarian in the vein of Ludwig von Mises and Henry Hazlitt and Harry Browne. My own written record, whether in my mid-1980s writings in Bill Buckley's National Review or later at such blogs as Alexandria, from which I resigned several minutes ago, bear that out. The behavior you describe from private life strikes me as more a human trait, ascribed to the individuals in question, rather than writ large unto an entire demographic with 99% of whose members we have no direct acquaintance. I have known plenty of people on both broadly defined "sides" of the electoral aisle, as well as many apolitical folk of undiscerned preference whose company I'd gladly not renew in this life or any hereafter. I make no apology whatever for the offense I give to any given member of either side when I defend those they assault; if they are patient enough, they will soon enough discover that I have or soon will be launching assaults all my own, far more telling, I hope, in their deadly precision, upon their favorite targets. In the case of Alexandria, I found the space there taken up by, for starters, paranoid conspiracy theorists who believe 9/11 to have been an inside job, womanist sob-sister laments, eye-glazing statistical posts on health reform and military matters, folksy self-congratulatory posts from selectively "tolerant" secularists with incurable cases of Christian Derangement Syndrome in recoil from the faithful, and anti-Semitic claptrap in the comment boxes, to be a drag on my soul, such that I felt tempted several times daily to provoke bare-knuckle brawls in the comment boxes, to little effect in the way of personal growth, enjoy though I might getting a rise out of those of my antagonists willing to take the bait. Indian Hill. I assume you had figured out I live about 50 miles from there. I have a nephew who teaches in Indian Hill High School. I had the honor of going swimming a couple of times in Bill Dewitt's pool. (Never met him.)
