IUPUI - P U!

IUPUI (Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis) reprimanded an employee for reading a book about a clash between Notre Dame University and the KKK in 1924, Notre Dame Vs. the Klan: How the Fighting Irish Defeated the Ku Klux Klan by Todd Tucker, a Notre Dame graduate.

A copy of the first letter the employee received can be viewed HERE.
The Affirmative Action Office has completed its investigation of Ms. ------ -------'s allegation that you racially harassed her by repeatedly reading the book, Notre Dame Vs. the Klan: How the Fighting Irish Defeated the Ku Klux Klan by Todd Tucker in the presence of Black employees. In conducting this investigation we interviewed you, ------- ------- and other employees with information relevant to the matter.

Upon review of this matter, we conclude that your conduct constitutes racial harassment...
You can read the entire thing at the link. The complete and utter stupidity of this boggles the intelligent mind. If any thing, the Affirmative Action Office should be glad that this man was reading this book on the evils of the KKK. The worst nightmares concerning political correctness are reinforced. I wonder what would happen if he read Uncle Tom's Cabin during breaks. It has the n-word in it and is about slavery! Horror of horrors!

Unfortunately, the real victim here is any semblance of intelligent action by IUPUI. Ironic for a place purportedly intended to educate. Perhaps, the IUPUI Affirmative Action Office should educate itself a little lot more.

Additionally, a commenter to the news article, SAJE Williams, at nuvo.net further demonstrates the amazing lack of insight some people possess
People of color wouldn't be so sensitive about such things if not for the fact that allegedly "good, upstanding, Christian white folks" fought a running battle against anything approaching equality for African Americans for nigh on a Century AFTER the Civil War and even now stand in support of a "War on Drugs" that results in far more severe punishment for African Americans and members of other minorities than whites.
We'd all be a heck of a lot better off if we stopped thinking of our fellow citizens as a member of a particular group and just accept them as another human being first.
SAJE attacks an entire group of people, "good, upstanding, Christian white folks," and then says we'd be better off if we "we stopped thinking of our fellow citizens as a member of a particular group and just accept them as another human being first." I wonder if SAJE thinks the image in the mirror is him/herself or someone else.

Too much ridiculousness in one event for me.

Comments:
Stunning. Someone should ask Michelle Obama about this. 'Cause I think writing a guy up for reading a book is "mean."

Someone should ask Michelle Obama about this.

Why don't you ask your mom about it while you are at it.

Speaking of cluelessness...

It's not the REALLY decent, upstanding Christian folk I'm deriding. Just the fake ones. You know, the kind who claim to be these things yet had no problem supporting American apartheid. What was done to the blacks AFTER slavery was unconscionable as well, no matter how you slice it.

And let's not forget that conservatives fought every single reform every single step of the way. Because that's what conservatives do. They'll fight tooth and nail for the right to be completely wrong. Again and again.
