While Daddy's Gone To War Child Abuse Increases

My favorite liberal, Patrick at Hurricane Radio, left this link in a comment today.
Children in some Army families are vulnerable to abuse and neglect by their mothers when their fathers are away at war in Iraq and Afghanistan, a large Pentagon-funded study finds.

Mothers were three times more likely to have a substantiated report of child mistreatment when their soldier husbands were deployed than when the fathers were home, according to the research. Mothers at home were nearly four times as likely to neglect their children and nearly twice as likely to physically abuse them during deployment periods.
Women, worried and under stress from a spouse at war plus children to care for, and those children pay the price.

Parenting may be the toughest job there is. I believe one of the reasons many women prefer to work and put the children in daycare or not have children is that parenting is too damn hard. Working is easy by comparison. Your children may be ungrateful and resentful of your efforts. You can't fire your children like an unruly employee.

Over the years, most human societies evolved a family system with a male and female parent. The absence of one puts tremendous stress on the other parent. I don't want to demonize anyone but I hope that the radical feminists take note that women are fully capable of and perform abusive behavior.

The Army appears to be responding appropriately to the situation.
The Army recently announced it will hire more than 1,000 additional “family readiness support assistants” to help families of deployed active-duty, Army Reserve and National Guard units.
Have a social work or psychology degree? Here's a job opportunity.

Comments:
Don't tell me --let me guess! The liberals will use this to "prove" that the troops need to come home. Never noticing that that argument "proves" that children are better off in a two parent, heterosexual home.

No, "stupid people" will use this to "prove" the troops need to come home, if they quote the study at all, since the whole scope falls outside "stupid people's" version of how the world works.

On the other hand, "Liberals" will forward the link to their conservative blogger freinds so we can discuss matters.

The information is necessary and troubling no matter what deployment our soldiers are on. Iraq, Yugoslavia, Somalia...it would all be the same. And there isn't really an argument here, just a study adding further evidence to something we already suspected was happening.

First of all, it highlights that women, too, can be abusive or neglectful parents. Which really isn't spoken of enough in our national dialogue on child rearing. (One of the things DADvocate and I agree on, I am sure.)

Second, households where one parent works in a civil service field requiring long abences are subject to high amounts of stressors associated with home life. This is nothing new, but the study reinforces the need for families in such situations to be better supported than they currently are. Which is important because their line of work provides for the common defense.

The two parents is best issue is one to which I briefly alluded. Although I am a single parent, I believe, with all other things being equal, the traditional two parent, male father, female mother, is best.

I'm willing to bet that the number of people that argue for all the alternative family structures would laugh in your face if you argued against evolution. But, they willingly deny the social/cultural evolution of virtually every human society on Earth that lead to the "traditional" family. The traditional family exists because of its evolutionary superiority, i.e. the fittest family structure.

While other structures are sometimes necessary, we should always work towards the best.

yes male female is best, but male male or female female is better than having just one..

theres best fit, or good enough fit.. if you cant have the first go to the second choice..
