Gingrich Speaks on Illegal Immigration

Newt Gingrich speaks on YouTube concerning the Kennedy/McCain immigration bill. He points out basic, significant problems with the bill.

Remember, John McCain says your too soft to pick lettuce for $50 an hour. John McCain doesn't support 1st amendment rights.

Ted Kennedy has already failed twice at immigration reform. Why is this loser leading another immigration "reform?"

Mitch McConnell is indebted to the tobacco and other agricultural interests in Kentucky as well as corporations. Farms are not held to minimum wage laws like other businesses. Farmers can get illegal aliens to work for much less than legal citizens. Living in Kentucky at the time, ten years ago I made more working tobacco than illegal aliens are paid now.

I wonder how much illegal aliens would be in demand as a work force if employers were required to pay them legal wages. Some thoughts from the AFL-CIO:
We have NO national policy on immigration, but let’s ask a few questions and really think about this for a minute…Number one -why won’t Americans do those jobs the illegal immigrants are doing? Are they too technically complex or too physically demanding? Is there a worker shortage in the U.S.? Are we not producing enough children each year to fill the labor market? Is the U.S. labor market that tight? If so, is that why American workers’ wages are soaring through the stratosphere? Oh, that’s not right…U.S. wages aren’t soaring. Real wages are actually falling after adjustment for inflation? Humm…that is curious! What’s going on, then? If we have unemployed, out-of-work U.S. citizens, why won’t they apply to work the jobs that are being filled by illegal immigrants?

I think we all know the answers to these questions. These jobs are only available to illegal immigrants. Tens of thousands of law-breaking U.S. employers want illegal immigrants they can cheat and exploit, not American citizens who know their workplace rights, demand fair wages and fringe benefits…These very same unscrupulous employers who are hiring these illegal immigrants are the very same neo cons who support the Bush “guest worker” program…why?

Why not eliminate the problem of human exploitation in the U.S. once and for all…forget the red herring of immigration reform and all the emotional divisiveness it brings to the table. Instead, let us focus on the root cause of illegal immigration. Let us ask our government to represent us for a change and to pass laws that guarantee a real living wage payable to any worker working any job in the United States regardless of immigration status or citizenship. Let us work toward eliminating America’s abject poverty and human suffering, once and for all. Why should America continue to tolerate a permanent under class here in our great nation? Demand that Congress pass and the federal government enforce real workers’ rights laws that are citizenship “blind” and that take the burden off the backs of exploited workers…Tell Congress to focus on laws making hiring of illegal immigrants a crime and level felony criminal charges against employers who knowingly violate workers rights and labor laws.
Emphasis added

Don't be fooled by the politicians. They no longer care about you or me. They only care about money and power. The reason we have this mess is that President Bush refused/failed to live up to his sworn duty. Congress has failed us equally. It just may be that our government "of the people, by the people, for the people,..." has perished.

Some additional Data points:
AS of June 21st.

A Zogby Interactive poll of 8,300 representative adults nationwide found only 38 percent supported the bill currently being considered by the Senate, while 56 percent opposed it.

The news comes as the bill returns to the Senate floor, facing a series of contentious amendments.

The poll, commissioned by United Press International and carried out earlier this week, showed that opponents of the reform package appeared to have won the battle to define it: 65 percent of respondents agreed that "this bill represents amnesty for illegal immigrants."

Also , the House Bill H.R. 1645 has some teeth to it, called the STRIVE ACT of 2007. This is opposite the Senate's Grand Bargain approach to this issue, which is 'melba-toast' in a regular guy's view point.

One more note... I think you will find this amusing. I have worked in the Fortune 500 for 30 years.
I took time off to goof off [ I am pretty good at this ]. I have a passion for guitars, so I said to myself, let me go work, making guitars, a manufacturing job, paying $8.50 an hour WITH NO benefits.

I couldn't get a job at 3 places. [Taylor, Fender, etc.]. These are the 'dirty' jobs Mr. McCain said the anglo-saxon like me would pass up.
Well you say, regular guy, why would you think your are qualified to do this? Well I have machine and CAD-CAM Design experience, Industrial Technology experience, I read blue prints, oh...I forgot , I have been play guitar for 30 years too. All the fundamentals for an entry level position ,to cut wood, glue and assemble, wouldn't you say?
And maybe too over qualified? So I dumbed-down my application to fit the bill.

NOPE - not even a return call. I wrote the president of the company. I explained I am happy to do the wood work , to be part of the manufacturing team . NOPE, go pound sand. [ I also re-applied at at all 3 companies, with no success].
I have an engineering degree, an MBA,etc. and have worked in manufacturing for years, and I was (and still) ready , willing and able to make and assemble guitars, for $8.50/hr. So what do you think could be missing? I think if you looked on the manufacturing floor, you would see the reason, all of the workers are not from here, the USA.

So much for the bull, that the avg. American would not do these jobs.

Politicians don't care about you... and Hallmark doesn't think you're all that important either Dad -(vocate).

Sad commentary!
Didn't find email address to send this to, so I'll post it for you.
Best regards,

Here's a data point to light your hair on fire... I am now tracking down the souce to authenticate this data; take a look-see:

A 2005 report by the federal Government Accountability Office [the GAO] found that between 1985 and 2000, 9 million people got hired using the Social Security number: 000-00-0000. The report also found 3.5 million instances where a company had several employees using the same Social Security number. Most of the problem entries came from the food service industry and the construction industry.

Lovely eh?

Update for those thinking Immigration - the STRIVE ACT of 2007 is not as robust as I thought and I stand corrected...it is the House resolutions that have some teeth - take a look.
