Senate Ready to Betray All American Citizens
Guaranteed that the Senate agreement on illegal immigration today gives all legal Americans the shaft. The numero uno reason for this amnesty is not amnesty proposal is that the insulated, isolated, protected rich, including "caring" liberal Democrats, want cheap labor for the corporations that finance their campaigns, provide them with private jets and free vacations.
How funny that Time magazine would publish an excerpt from Al Gore's book, The Assault on Reason. How funny that Al Gore, known of his emotional tirades on global warming, would write a book on reason. Although he uses the word "logic," perhaps Gore is referring to emotional reasoning which is his style or one of the other cognitive distortions.
Gore makes some excellent points regarding how easily public opinion can be manipulated and why so few seem capable of solid, logical reasoning.
A lack of rationality permeates the illegal immigrant debate. But, one thing is for certain, allowing the continuous violation of the law is unacceptable. President Bush and Congress have failed the American public greatly. The executive branch is supposed to enforce the laws of the country. Bush's performance rates the worst of any president. The legislative branch has failed equally by not ensuring adequate funding, personnel, etc. to enforce the laws it passed.
Instapundit cites a report "hat nobody has an actual bill yet, and that the text won't be available until after it's voted on." How's that for responsible government? Senators are ready to pass a bill that isn't in it's final form.
More good stuff here. Apparently, illegals are unhappy, also. Guess what? Their opinion shouldn't matter. They belong to a group that has a 100% crime rate. They all broke the law by entering the USA illegally.
Michele Malkin posts her, and others', dissatisfaction with the shafting of America.
My advice: invest in Vaseline and KY jelly. Every legal American citizen going to be buying it to ease the pain.
UPDATE: How do real Americans feel about illegal immigration? Here's a clue:

"If you run this ad at this many 'points' [a measure of the size of the advertising buy], and if Ashe responds as we anticipate, and then we purchase this many points to air our response to his response, the net result after three weeks will be an increase of 8.5% in your lead in the polls."I wonder about the foreboding part.
I authorized the plan and was astonished when three weeks later my lead had increased by exactly 8.5%. Though pleased, of course, for my own campaign, I had a sense of foreboding for what this revealed about our democracy.
In the world of television, the massive flows of information are largely in only one direction, which makes it virtually impossible for individuals to take part in what passes for a national conversation. Individuals receive, but they cannot send. They hear, but they do not speak. The "well-informed citizenry" is in danger of becoming the "well-amused audience."I've never agreed with Al Gore more. Witness the "news" channels and how they try to make news entertaining. Indeed, one of my messages to my kids is that you are not on this Earth to be entertained. When they complain of being bored, I tell them it's not my responsibility to entertain them. Go read a book, mow the yard, feed the dog, wash the dishes, do something useful. I hate it that so many people need to be constantly entertained. iPods have brought this to a new level. Videos, music, etc. any time, any where. It's no wonder that being smarter than a 5th grader is now seen as a challenge.

here’s the line of the day:That's right, folks. All you need to know about governing the most powerful country in history, you learned in the 9th grade.
“This is what my 9th grade teacher told me government is all about and I finally got to experience it,” said Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.).
Michele Malkin posts her, and others', dissatisfaction with the shafting of America.
There have been seven illegal alien amnesties passed into law since 1986:Yeah, but who cares? The rich are getting richer, living in gated communities and are largely immune from the chaos which they create and from which they profit. They send a Paris Hilton or Martha Stewart to jail ever so often to placate the masses they abuse.
·The 1986 Immigration and Reform Control Act blanket amnesty for an estimated 2.7 million illegal aliens
·1994: The "Section 245(i)" temporary rolling amnesty for 578,000 illegal aliens
·1997: Extension of the Section 245(i) amnesty
·1997: The Nicaraguan Adjustment and Central American Relief Act for nearly one million illegal aliens from Central America
·1998: The Haitian Refugee Immigration Fairness Act amnesty for 125,000 illegal aliens from Haiti
·2000: Extension of amnesty for some 400,000 illegal aliens who claimed eligibility under the 1986 act
·2000: The Legal Immigration Family Equity Act, which included a restoration of the rolling Section 245(i) amnesty for 900,000 illegal aliens]
Guess what? None –not one—of those amnesties was associated with a decline in illegal immigration. On the contrary, the number of illegal aliens in the U.S. has tripled since President Reagan signed the first amnesty in 1986.
My advice: invest in Vaseline and KY jelly. Every legal American citizen going to be buying it to ease the pain.

ALLENTOWN, Pa. — Hazleton Mayor Lou Barletta, who gained national prominence by targeting illegal immigrants living in his small northeastern Pennsylvania city, cruised to the Republican nomination for a third term on Tuesday - and unexpectedly won the Democratic nomination, too.Hat tip to Instapundit.
Barletta trounced GOP challenger Dee Deakos with nearly 94 percent of the vote. And he beat former Mayor Michael Marsicano for the Democratic nomination by staging a last-minute write-in campaign, all but guaranteeing himself another term, unofficial returns showed.

Wow, I can't believe that in a post where you are quoting Gore about how easily public opinion can be manipulated, you use public opinion at the end of the post to justify your position. The simple fact is that illegal immigration generally has a net benefit on the economy. Now, I'm all for securing the borders for national security reasons, but generally I can't figure out why people are getting so worked up about something like illegal immigration. Sure it's illegal, but then again so is speeding. In the grand scheme of things both are pretty small issues.
By the way here's a link to a survey of economists about immigration.

Illegal immigation "has a net benefit on the economy" and it's a "pretty small" issue, like speeding? National security aside, how about sucking our social resources dry and sending their wages back home? Jeez.
Anyway, my main point to advocate middle class unification. Red and blue voters seem to be mostly in agreement on this bill -- it's a slap in the face and it sucks. In less than 24 hours, there are 19+ Web pages of liberal fury at HuffingtonPost, not exactly a conservative bastion.
As a former Dem (now Independent), I suggest that we all band together to defeat this hideous bill. It's simply a ploy for cheap labor on one hand and cheap votes on the other.
I've had enough. I've contacted my three Congressional reps to express my anger, daring them to vote for the bill.
As long as the middle class is divided into red and blue -- each side voting for its home team -- working class Americans will continue to be screwed by D.C. We squabble while they rob us blind. It's time to fight together for the common good of American society. Forget red vs. blue. It's about saving this country -- the one that WE built and want to keep.
Call or e-mail your reps today. Scare the freaking begeezus out of them. Thanks for listening.

"net benefit on the economy"
Sorry, more money doesn't justify anything. If you give me $100 a week against my will, do I have to let you in my house whenever you wish?
I'm agreeing with CL. I'd rather not have the net benefit. The sale of illegal drugs probably has a net benefit also. Dealers spend that money to buy cars, houses and other goods.
Much of the net benefit comes from shamelessly exploiting illegal aliens by paying them way below prevailing wage, sometimes below minimum wage. Thus, legal Americans are robbed of jobs on the low end of the pay scale.
I used to help cut and put up tobacco in Kentucky. 10 years ago we got paid $8-$10 per hour, sometimes more. Now they have illegals do it for about $5 per hour. Various farm work and other seasonal work used to be a great way for teenagers and others to earn some extra cash. Not any more.
The U.S. is not an infinite resource. We have 3,536,294 sq. mi
of land area. Our population is a little over 301,000,000. Nearly 100 people per square mile and plenty of those miles are useless for human survival. According to this paper from Cornell University, The U.S. can only be self-sustaining with a population of 40-100 million, well below our current population.
By allowing illegal immigration and/or amnesty to illegal immigrants, we are taking our land and other resources away from legal citizens, our children, etc. and giving it to people who entered this country illegally. In many cases, believe they are entitled to take whatever they want with little regard to the laws of the land which they first broke when entering this country.
The planet is rapidly becoming over-populated. Our first responsibility is to our children and ourselves. Our resources have become overextended. Many other countries, like China and India, are becoming greater consumers. We are courting disaster if we aren't very careful with our resources.
I'm convinced we need guest workers to maintain our economy at its present level. I have no problem with legal guest workers and legal, controlled immigration. But, amnesty for illegals invites more illegals.

i am doing my bit to stop the use of resources, by not having children. over 6 BILLION people on this planet, i have said that humanity is a plague, we destroy more than locusts, we actually destroy the biosphere.
i have no problem with legal immigrants, they are the backbone of society, but when they have anchor babies, and actually break the law to live, with no accountability.

I wrote that illegal immigration "has a net benefit on the economy". However, there seems to be a lot of emotions clouding the issue. There are a lot of people saying or feeling that immigration is bad, and the simple fact is that it is only illegal, thus my comparison to speeding. There's no moral reason to oppose illegal immigration. Actually here's a good article arguing the opposite:

By the way dadvocate I read quite a bit of that paper from Cornell. It was very interesting, however, I tend to be an optimist, and I generally think that the free market will be able to overcome many of the issues presented in the article. Actually I work in the power industry. Here's one way we could eventually be able to overcome a lot of our power production issues, and help with environmental issues as well. It's called distributed generation. We have to design the grid and generation system to withstand 1 day out of the year (the peak day). If we begin to use distributed generation (probably solar), we will have to change the way we think about the grid, suddenly we not only have to produce as much electricity in the large generators, but we also will have a more constant and distributed load that will also reduce costs. Also you need to keep in mind that in the mid 1970's the cost per kWh for solar energy was $2.00 now it's around a quarter. As the technology becomes cheaper more and more people will start to use it. It's probably inevitable (though it will make the largest impact in the sunny areas first). By the way here's a chart showing how the cost of energy has been declining even though the population and economy have been growing:

Folks,
What I still do not get... this is not AMERICA vs. Mexicans, yet it is percieved as such. It's common sense to know who comes and who goes in your Country. I am an idiot and I know that much... but riddle me this: tell me which law(s) I can break so I know. This is in fact the exact condition we have today with Illigal Immigration.
Then they protest that that are not being treated fairly. A 'liberty' given to citizens of the USA.
NOw , what can one do? Fax, call, email your representatives.
How does one do this easily, we are all busy. COnsider NumbersUSA.
I use thids site as a tool so I can DO SOMETHING.

Illegal Immigration as Good?
There is a post here that suggests that there is net good from this condition... perhaps youwnat to take a look at the arrest sheets in LA. Look at the number of Illigals that are part of crime, in jail, causing grief to our city.
Net good if you live in Lombard, Illinois.
