GM Roper Looks at Group Think, Democrats and Their Allies

GM Roper has written a superb analysis of Democrat/liberal psycho/social dynamics I've read anywhere, Group Think - The Democrats and Their Allies.

I'm always hesitant to call something a must read but this is.

Comments:
Interesting read, but as the odd man out in almost any groupthink situation, those sorts of tendencies bother me about all kinds of people.

Glad to see Roper acknowledge that the other side does the same sort of things, but many of the examples he gives are making the exception the rule.

People absolutely revel in the aspects of self-identification, which groupthink emerges from.

Are you "cool" enough to hang out with the popular kids in high school? At the same time, are you "different" enough in the same way to hang out with the skater/non-conformist crowd in high school? Are you a "Townie" or a "Frat Boy" in college? In psychology are you "introverted" or "extroverted"? Are you "Southern by the Grace of God," or are you "California Dreamin'?"

The "Red State/Blue State" schema was the most masterful of these tactics. Today I read an editorial from David Brooks that excoriates the movie "Borat" and the "Daily Show" for being attacks from latte sipping, Whole Foods Market shopping liberals on mainstream America. Didn't see any 'Blue Collar Comedy Tour' refrences involved, though. Guess ol' Brooks counts as the other side's 'groupthink' in the reinforcement role.

Group think does run both ways. The analysis hit me in reference to one particular blog, not yours obviouisly, in which they pretty much constantly tell each other how correct they are and how bad others are.

HurricaneRadio comes no where close to falling into this realm. You all have some pretty strong disagreements but maintain civility (ususally) which is the main reason I read it. Plus I like getting the perspective of the "younger" generation. I haven't seen "Borat" but I live the Daily Show.

Oh, you can't insult the Blue Collar Comedy Tour because they're from Georgia and places like that. No telling what they'd do to you.
