Who's Shooting Nuns in the Back?

Via Michelle Malkin, nun in Somalia shot in the back while entering hospital where she worked.
Several witnesses blamed Sunday's shooting on the recent controversy over a speech Pope Benedict XVI made in Germany on Tuesday on Islam in which he quoted a Medieval text calling the Prophet Muhammad's teachings "evil and inhuman."

"I am sure the killers were angered by the pope's speech in which he attacked our prophet," said Ashe Ahmed Ali, one of the many who witnessed the shooting.

"These gunmen always look for white people to kill, and now the pope gave them the reason to do their worst," said Mohamud Durguf Derow, another witness.
I don't know how the Pope ever imagined that Muslim radicals tend towards violence. I'm sure the shooter(s) were simply protecting themselves against the threat of radical Christianity that Rosie O'Donnell so courageously and brilliantly exposed.

Comments:
Statistically speaking, it was Somalia, and I'm sure the overall liklihood of being shot (in the back, in the front, etc) is much higher in that particular region of the world, reasons notwithstanding.

As far as what the Pope said, I don't know quite what his intention was, injecting words such as those into already strained Islamic - Christian relations worldwide. The quote does not address Muslim radicals, it seems to address Muslims as a whole by directly attacking their Prophet.

Let us not forget that "convert by the sword/kill the infidel/non-believer" ideology can also be found throughout the Old Testament as well, and throughout Christian and Catholic History.

What I think is that the 'dialouge' between Manuel and the "Lerned Persian theologian" is perhaps a more dramatized conversation when taken as a whole than we are being led to believe. The infamous words that the Pope quoted sound too leading: we are never exposed to the 'Lerned Persian Theologian's' response...

no one expects the spanish inquisition,

NOBODY expects the Spanish inquisition! Our chief weapon is suprise...surprise and fear...fear and surprise.... Our two weapons are fear and surprise...and ruthless efficiency.... Our
*three* weapons are fear, surprise, and ruthless eficiency...and an almost fanatical devotion to the Pope.... Our four*...no...*Amongst* our weapons.... Amongst our weaponry...are such elements as fear, surprise.... I'll come in again. (just replace spanish inquisition with al queda or muslim fundamentals.

Interesting thoughts by all.

I wrote a short satirical piece on this today - Buddhist Violence Continues For Fourth Straight Day.

Dan-

Neat piece. I like your line: "He has called for Buddhists around the world to begin mispronouncing the Pope’s name until there is a public apology."

I've also heard rumors that Hindus are on the edge.
