Arresting Mountain Top Removal Protesters at the White House

They told me if I voted for John McCain, (phrase stolen from Instapundit) people would be arrested for peacefully protesting in front of the White House.
About 100 people were arrested Monday outside the White House while protesting mountaintop removal mining, temporarily trading their freedom for a chance to highlight what they consider an environmental calamity.

The protesters, arrested after refusing orders from U.S. Park Police to leave the sidewalk on Pennsylvania Avenue in front of the White House, were taken to a waiting city bus. As police escorted them one-by-one, hundreds of their supporters screamed encouragement from behind the police lines, like fans greeting runners from the sidewalk of a marathon. Most of those arrested went along peacefully, but a few resisted, leading Park Police to drag them to a police truck.
Among those arrested was climate scientist James Hansen, who issued a statement saying that mountaintop removal "destroys historic mountain ranges, poisons water supplies and pollutes the air with coal and rock dust."
Apparently, also those arrested include the older brother of a friend of my 14 year old daughter. Her friend lives in Morehead, KY and is the person who took the picture of the man at the drive-thru window in my previous post. (He's one of my "friends" on Facebook, although I've never met him. He seems like a hilarious kid, always making funny comments.)

The Threat to Our Civil Liberties

Hurricane Radio directed me to this article, The Shortcut To Serfdom which addresses the threats to our civil liberties.
This is a severely abridged sampling of the manifold ways our civil liberties are under attack. The War on Drugs and The War on Terrorism are the biggest culprits. Unfortunately, the Republican Party — the one that is always fretting about lost liberty — generally lends law enforcement and anti-terrorism efforts their blind support, and appoints too many judges who do the same. As you can see in the quote that begins this piece, it’s thought-leaders go so far as to assert that these issues are less worrisome attacks on liberty than President Obama’s domestic agenda.
Americans are on an assassination list already. Innocents are imprisoned today. SWAT teams took out countless doors in no-knock raids this week. The last two presidents have asserted authority unprecedented in American history… and even when they break the law it goes unpunished.

Neither President Obama nor his conservative critics satisfy me on civil liberties.
Here an article on the state of our property rights according to the World Economic Forum.
Take property rights. They're at the essence of US capitalism. Last year, according to the WEF's survey of executives, the US was the 30th best country. This year we've fallen to 40th.
As Conor Friedorsdorf states, this is a bi-partisan problem. One issue I agreed with most liberals with was the Patriot Act. Taking away our rights and freedom isn't how you protect our rights and freedoms. Unfortunately, too many liberals are not being quiet now that one of their's is in the White House. It show's their lack of commitment to real values and principles (which is just as true for many conservatives).

Oh, Give Me That "disastrous decade"

Obama continues to play the fool while expecting to fool us. After two years in office, he still can't get out of campaign mode and into effective governing mode. Today in his weekly address he attacks Republican failures.
President Barack Obama says Republicans' plan to slash taxes and cut spending if the GOP retakes the House in November is no more than "an echo of a disastrous decade we can't afford to relive."

Obama used his weekly radio and Internet address Saturday to skewer House Republicans over the "Pledge to America" they unveiled this week. It also promised to cut down on government regulation, repeal Obama's health care law and end his stimulus program.

"The Republicans who want to take over Congress offered their own ideas the other day. Many were the very same policies that led to the economic crisis in the first place, which isn't surprising, since many of their leaders were among the architects of that failed policy," Obama said.

"It is grounded in same worn-out philosophy: cut taxes for millionaires and billionaires; cut the rules for Wall Street and the special interests; and cut the middle class loose to fend for itself. That's not a prescription for a better future."
Gee, as those of us with an accurate memory remember, that "disastrous decade" was never as bad as Obama's tenure so far. And, it only began getting bad when the Democrats took over Congress in 2006.

Speaking of "worn-out philosophy", isn't it time to give up the FDR nightmare that prolonged the Great Depression and has proven itself to be fiscally unworkable time after time. It never seems to occur to these dimwits that the health of Wall Street affects the wealth of the middle class. How do the majority of middle class retirement plans and other investments grow their value? Hint: Via Wall Street.

Where have we seen more examples of "failed policy" than in the Obama administration? And, he's done it in less than two years. Yet, he tells Tea Parties they need to come up with ideas and that Republican ideas are worn-out. (Plus, as I've reminded you before, he's increasing poverty at record rates.) Mr. Obama, since you're so damn smart, how about you come up with some ideas and policies that work, are fiscally responsible, don't increase the debt our children and grandchildren owe and revive the economy.

Oh, I see. You're too busy greasy the palms of your cronies. Thanks, anyway.

Obama Fighting Poverty....... or not?

Apparently, Obama has ideas on how to fight global poverty. We should expect record rates in the growth of poverty across the world then. He's done enough by screwing up America. He should stop there.

The Attacks Begin or Bozo Appears at Town Hall

Democrats plan to attack the Tea Party as part of their election strategy, as opposed to actually do something constructive. Today President Bozo Obama fired his first premature shot.
President Obama said today that members of the Tea Party movement are "misidentifying... who the culprits are" in blaming Democrats for the nation's deficits and debt.

The president did offer some words of encouragement for the largely conservative movement, saying it fits in America's "noble tradition of being healthily skeptical about government...[and] saying that government should pay its way."

But he stressed that the administration of George W. Bush that left him with massive deficits in part by spending on two wars without paying for them while at the same time lowering taxes.
OK, President Bozo, how about not give $100 million dollars to the brother of Democratic Congressman Russ Carnahan.

Oh, and I love how you once again blamed Bush for your failure. Apparently, Bush is still the most powerful man in the world although you're president. He's been able to cause the Democrats to fail long after being out of office. Even after they've controlled Congress for 4 years. You're the world's biggest wimp compared to this powerful man.

Every time you open your mouth you reinforce your incompetence.

What Kind of Fool Do You Think I Am?

The AFSCME (American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, AFL-CIO) has been running this radio commercial:

IT’S PRETTY SIMPLE.

WHILE DEMOCRATS PUSHED THROUGH A JOBS BILL THAT KEPT THE DOORS OPEN AT LOCAL SCHOOLS, HOSPITALS AND SENIOR CENTERS, REPUBLICANS VOTED TO LAY OFF HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF AMERICANS.

WHILE DEMOCRATS LOOKED OUT FOR US, PAYING FOR THIS BILL BY ELIMINATING CORPORATE LOOPHOLES, REPUBLICANS LOOKED OUT FOR CEOs WHO SHIPPED JOBS OVERSEAS.

IT’S A CLEAR CHOICE THIS NOVEMBER. EITHER WE OPEN DOORS TO A BETTER FUTURE, OR WE SLAM THE DOOR IN ITS FACE.

They're feeding us this bullshit when they have control of the House, Senate and Presidency, while unemployment is rampant, while poverty is increasing at record rates, while the Dems dish out money to cronies, while we're spending ourselves into debt our children won't be able to pay off and public employess living off our taxes live better than we do.

What kind of fool falls for this baloney? This song is dedicated to the AFSCME and the Democratic Party.

Are Gender Roles a Socail Construct?

Feminists love to spout that gender roles are social constructs and that girls act like girls and boys act like boys because of social training, i.e. they way they are treated by their parents and other adults. This article in Scientific American punctures that theory.

The article isn't about whether or not gender roles are scientific constructs but makes this statement:
By “sex-typed behaviors,” Bailey and Zucker are referring to that long, now scientifically canonical, list of innate sex differences in the behaviors of young males versus young females. In innumerable studies, scientists have documented that these sex differences are largely impervious to learning and found in every culture examined (even, some researchers believe, in youngsters of other primate species).
Emphasis added.

Feminist have a long record of denying reality. How many times have you heard the "girls throw like girls because dads don't go out and throw ball with them in the yard" bit? In reality, the ability to throw is the single greatest difference between males and females.
The finding of large sex differences in throwing skills as early as 2 years of age indicates that it is very unlikely that these differences result from the differential socialization of boys and girls (see the Parenting section below). In fact, these sex differences are almost certainly related, at least in part, to differences in the structure of the skeletal system that supports throwing.
Please don't make the little girls miserable by telling them they can do something they very likely can't.

Equality is all fine and good. But, remember we're not all equal. Some of us are bigger and stronger, others smarter, others run faster. Develop your abilities as much as possible and help your kids develop theirs. Don't try to be something you're not or make kids something they're not.

Hope and Change and Poverty

Demographers expect the poverty rate to show the greatest single year increase since the government began keeping track.
The new figure will be released next week and is expected to show about 45 million Americans were living in poverty last year. That this is happening under the most liberal president ever is worth noting. It's axiomatic among liberals that Republican policies -- specifically the push for lower taxes and less government spending -- create poverty. This does not square with the historical record.

The previous record for a single-year increase in the poverty level occurred in 1980, under President Carter. His successor, President Reagan, was routinely accused of inducing poverty by cutting taxes and domestic spending. For instance, a common liberal trope in that era -- still kept alive by some -- was to blame homelessness on Reagan's unwillingness to prosecute alleged violations of the Community Reinvestment Act. The reality, however, is that personal income grew by 8.1 percent under Reagan and that the poverty rate reached an all-time low by the time he left office.
Yes, we now have the most inept, incompetent president in history. He has no clue. Maybe we can convince him to take a permanent vacation. At the least, we can hope for some change in November.

Lions and Tigers and Bears

OK, just lions. A mountain lion to be exact. A mountain lion was spotted about 10 miles from my house.
At first I thought, "Wow, what a dog," but when I got a good look at it realized it was entirely too big for a dog," Quinn said.

When the animal turned to the side, Quinn was able to see the big cat's shape better and the long tail with a curl on the end.

"It had a body about as long as a pair of love seat cushions and it was thin. It may have gotten what it was hunting because I see there are buzzards circling in the area where it had been," Quinn said.

In her excitement, Quinn woke her husband and grabbed the binoculars.

"He has better eyesight than I do," Quinn said.

He confirmed what she thought she was looking at was indeed a mountain lion.

"He got a good look at it, and again through the binoculars. I forgot about the camera at first, but when I got the camera, it had moved to the shadows of the treeline so the camera couldn't pick it up," Quinn said.
Somebody call David Baron. (A great book, BTW.)

I'll be keeping my rifle a little more handy.

Brings to mind this song, one of my all time favorites. (I've got about 1,732 favorites.)

Obama Committed to Middle Class, Uh Huh

Obama says he's committed to the middle class.
In his weekly radio and Internet address, Obama on Saturday outlined what he's done to help the middle class, a group he says has been squeezed the most during the recession.

He touted efforts to create jobs, make college more affordable, help the middle class build retirement nest eggs, cut taxes on these families and stop health insurance companies from refusing to cover people with pre-existing medical conditions.
As my daughter would say in a sarcastic tone, "Uh huh."
Or, my son would have said, "Not!"
Or, we said at an earlier time, "Yeah, right."

It'd be nice, if for once, this guy would try recognizing reality. The other day he tried to portray job losses as job gains. The middle classs is being wiped out.

Wiping out the middle class suits Obama's purposes. Have you ever noticed how Marxist regimes never have a middle class? Marxist utopias are basically plantations.
At the top, you’ve got the Massa and his family — Fidel, Raul, et al. — followed by various layers of overseers — the Communist Party apparat, the secret police — and House Negroes — e.g., the state-controlled media — all living off the surplus labor of the Field Negroes, whose produce is disposed of not according to their own desires (that would be capitalism!) but according to their betters’. This, we’re told, is for the best, since they aren’t smart enough to make their own decisions anyway, and the Massa looks after them with food, housing, and health care.
Guess I should be thanking Massa Obama for all he's done for me and my family although I don't see any of it.

Not My Son's Team

As anyone who occasionally reads my blog knows, my son plays high school football. Below is an epic fail from a game somewhere. The type of thing that keeps coaches awake at night and players remembered forever, for the wrong reason.
